This site is based around my passion for outdoor sports, predominantly cycling and skiing. I add in to this some climbing, surfing, hiking and running to keep moving interesting and explore new places.
Creating this website began as a pandemic lockdown project with the idea of providing an enjoyable outlet for these interests. Through sharing a collection of stories, trip reports and photos, I wanted to show friends and family, plus anyone interested, my experiences, places travelled and sights from along the way.
As sport-related endeavours have taken me to increasingly interesting places, the website become a useful tool. It has become a home for my past, present and future outdoor exploits and ambitions to manifest, whilst also providing a means to recount and record important events and learnings. Over time this website has developed to become as much about personal reflection and self-efficacy as it is about sharing.
Reports range from homegrown small-scale gatherings to iconic events, long-established routes and famous destinations. Timescales range from big days out or long weekend missions, to week-long tours and multi-week explorations, and include a mix of type one and type two fun.
The journal pages are all written and documented by me, and I’ve tried to make this as useful a resource as possible so have included maps of routes travelled and places visited day-by-day, and photos to give an idea of the terrain and kit needs. There are also links to websites, other peoples’ helpful trip reports and/or videos that I used when planning.
Below are some photos of me in my favourite places over the years, plus some background detail on my life so far.
I grew up in the rural West Midlands in England and had an interest in action and adventure sports from a young age, first with skateboarding.
At 14 I went on my first ski trip to the Swiss Alps and my eyes were opened to bigger alpine adventures and my passion for the mountains was kick started. I subsequently pursued winter ski seasons in France and Switzerland either side of studying for a degree.
Whilst at university on the south coast I began climbing indoors and as a means to get around town, I started road cycling.
I then moved to Bristol and caught the touring and long-distance cycling bug, riding across the UK and Europe.
My cycling transitioned from road to off-road and then mountain biking as I learned new skills and wanted to be able to ride all types of terrain.
After nearly five years in Bristol, I moved to London for a new challenge. I pushed my riding onto the boards of the velodrome in winter and took on mountain bike tours in the summer.
My skiing progressed to touring as I focused on the backcountry to explore further afield, and I also moved my climbing outdoors.
Approaching five years in the City, I decided to make a big change and relocate to New Zealand, where I could pursue a lifestyle closer to the outdoors, which I’ve been chasing and dreaming of for some time now.
So far, so (very) good, and I’ve been riding, surfing, sailing, skiing, running, and hiking all over the North and South Islands.
I’ll update this site as and when I have fun trips to share. Check back every once in a while to see what’s new.
Thanks for visiting, ciao!
